Warm smiles and big hugs helped some of our leapers get through the cold temperatures on Saturday. For some, the Ford Lake Frozen Leap is a fun bucket list item, to others it’s owning up on a lost bet, but for most it’s a way to give back and make a difference in our community - while having an awesome time!

This year Joshua Johnson, representing Squeal Team 6 (Washtenaw County Sheriffs) was our top fundraiser bringing in $1,200! It just so happens that for the second year in a row, the Washtenaw County Sheriffs Office were the top fundraising team! While Squeal Team 6 may have been the largest fundraisers, the Soaking Eagles were easily the biggest…literally. For the second year in a row the EMU Football team showed it’s support for Ypsi by manning a team and taking the leap! This year’s squad included newly appointed Head Coach Chris Creighton and some of his staff. Congratulations and thank you guys and gals for all your hard work and dedication to our event.

We’d also like to recognize our team at The Lake Shore Apartments. What an incredible job their entire team does every year and simply put, the Ford Lake Frozen Leap wouldn’t exist without the hard work and effort from Mike O’lynnger, Jen Radzisewski, Rachel Bouley, Chris Fairbanks and Kat Dickenson and the entire team at the Lake Shore Apartments!

We’d also like to thank some of your partners that donated money, product or time to make this an event a success. Special thanks to Mike Hart, Underground Printing, Buffalo Wild Wings of Ypsilanti, Tower Inn, Noodles & Co, DJ Xten Sive, Matthew Altruda of TreeTown Sounds and Skydive Tecumseh.

A fun fact and what makes the Ford Lake Frozen Leap different than other events like ours is that 100% of our donations (not including Crowdrise/Credit Card processing fees) go to our non-profits. Over $5,000 will go to each one of our partnering non-profits this year. Everyone donates their time and/or product or service. Those things that don’t get donated are purchased independently from the event. So literally every dollar counts and we couldn’t be more proud of our team and those who continue to support us every year!

THANK YOU:

Final Push for Tomorrow’s 6th Annual Ford Lake Frozen Leap!

February 14, 2014 0 notes Reblog

To our brave leapers,

Thank you for participating in the 6th Annual Ford Lake Frozen Leap. This year, we have more people participating than ever before so tomorrow will definitely be an action packed day filled with fun, food and a little freezing.

We’ve put together some last minute reminders for all of you to make sure you’ll come prepared to take the leap tomorrow. Please read carefully!

-The event will be held at The Lake Shore Apartments. 2500 Lake Shore Blvd in Ypsi

-Registration starts at 10am and closes at 10:45am. Make sure all of your team members are on site, registered and ready to go by 10:45am.

-After a few quick announcements and the group picture at 11am, we’ll begin the leap.  Look for the jump order as you will jump one at a time, but with your team.

-Each team may designate 1 person to participate in the best leap contest. That person MUST jump first for their team.

-Every participant MUST be wearing shoes or flip flops when taking the leap.

-Each participant is asked to raise a minimum of $50. Depending on the number of walk up participants, we may refuse those who have raised less than the minimum amount but will try our hardest to accommodate everyone. If you do not raise $50, you will NOT receive a wristband which gives you access to free food provided by our awesome sponsors (Buffalo Wild Wings, Noodles and Co. and Tower Inn) and the event t-shirt graciously donated by our friends at Underground Printing.

-Things to bring: Extra shoes, extra socks, towel, change of clothes and the warmest articles of clothing you own.

-We will provide: a warming tent that you will be sprayed with warm water in prior to going into our heated (outdoor) changing tent. Washtenaw County Dive team and other safety personnel will be on site to make sure we have a safe and fun event.

There’s still time to raise money so make that final push and bring all of our offline donations with you. Checks can be made to Growing Hope or Pakmode Publications.

Don’t forget to follow and tag us on social media with your photos tomorrow!

Ypsilanti, MI – The 6th Annual Ford Lake Frozen Leap is excited to announce the opening of fundraising efforts and leap registration with the “30 Days. $30,000” campaign. Coming off the success of last year’s $25,000 fundraising efforts, organizers hope to reach records highs with the new campaign and the new charity, which begins Wednesday, January 15.
This year, all proceeds will benefit the newly formed Mike Hart Family Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to inspire and positively impact the lives of youth through enriching activities that promote sport, health, education and sportsmanship. The Mike Hart Family Foundation will distribute funds from the 6th Annual Ford Lake Frozen Leap to 3 charities selected by Pakmode Media + Marketing, The Lake Shore Apartments and Mike Hart respectively. The 3 non-profits benefitting from this year’s leap will be the Detroit Regional Dollars for Scholars, Growing Hope  and Ele’s Place.
“‘30 Days. $30,000’ is a great way for us to maximize on the excitement of leapers and their fundraising efforts. We want to keep the momentum high from start to finish this year with a high goal and a shorter time frame, said Jen Radziszewksi, cofounder of the Ford Lake Frozen Leap.
Bilal Saeed, one of the co-founders of the event said, “We’re thrilled to have Mike involved with the event again, and this year on a bigger scale. Mike is a special guy who truly cares about the community and making a difference in the lives of the youth living in our community. We’re lucky to have such a young, inspirational leader in our community, and specifically with the Ford Lake Frozen Leap.”
Mike Hart, the Assistant Running Backs Coach at Eastern Michigan University and former Michigan football star added, “When Bilal asked me to get involved with the event last year, I knew right away how great this event was from an awareness aspect, as well as making a significant financial impact for some local non-profits. The Mike Hart Family Foundation is thrilled to be a part of this growing event and making a true impact at some of the our favorite local charities. And yes, I will be taking the leap myself, for the 2nd year in a row!”
The leap takes place on Saturday February 15, 2014 at The Lakeshore Apartments. Each participant is required to raise at least $50 and receive a number of things to make their experience enjoyable. Each participant receives a t-shirt for participating, compliments ofUnderground Printing, as well as a wristband giving them access to FREE goodies from local vendors and sponsors such as Beezy’s Cafe. Prizes will also be awarded to top fundraising team, best team costume and best leap. Prizes include Mainstreet Ventures gift cards, ShopEMUEagles.com gift cards, local sports and entertainment events and more.
There will be fun activities for spectators to partake in and plenty of entertainment including sounds from DJ Xten Sive and fun from one of MLive’s Top Entertainment Stars of 2013, and host of the infamous Tree Town Sound on Ann Arbor’s 107one, Matthew Altruda.
